What Is Exactly Teak Wood?

The teak wood is scientifically known as the Tectona grandis. Teak wood is a tropical hardwood tree species belonging to the family Lamiaceae. It is a deciduous tree that occurs in mixed hardwood forests and is very large. The teak plant does not have big flowers but they have small flowers which are mostly white, also the small, white flowers have an aromatic fragrance and are also known for their aroma. 

Not only flowers but also the leaves of the teak plant are a bit different from others. That is the leaves are larger and often have a paper-like texture and mostly have a hairy feeling at the bottom side of the leaf. The unique wood of the teak has a texture more like a strong rock and when the teak wood is freshly milled it smells like leather.

Specialty Of Teak Wood

Though all the parts of the teak wood are beneficial to all because of their amazing features, the wood of the teak is given more importance. The teak wood is specifically known for its durability, that is the thickness of the wood which can very rarely get ruptured, the second most specialty of the teak wood is that the wood is water-resistant. Water resistance means it can hold water for a long period. 

And because of this specialty, these teak wood are used for boat building, exterior construction, veneer, furniture, carvings, turnings, and other small wood projects. The teak wood is native to places like south, southeast Asia. But the main countries are India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Sri Lanka. But teak wood is naturally cultivated in countries of Africa. It has been found that Myanmar’s teak forest represents for around, nearly half of the world’s naturally forming teak.

How Teak Wood Is Used For Making Wooden Objects (Boat, Furniture)

As we all know how useful teak wood is to us, the teak wood has its major contribution in the making of heavy wooden objects like furniture, boats, tables, doors, etc. The main reason why teak wood is used majorly in wooden objects is because of teak oil. Teak wood has high oil content which makes them more useful. Teak’s wood has high tensile strength meaning that the wood is strong from inside and can hold heavyweights. This amazing teak wood also has Tight grain which makes it more suitable where weather resistance is desired.
